As the year comes to a close, HHS students are receiving awards for their work. Recently, HHS art students were awarded for their creativity and skill.

Boston Petit recently won the UNL Young Artist Award for his piece entitled “Death and Its Network.” He received his award at the UNL Champions Club and was given a tour of the UNL art building.

“I was really honored to receive the award because I was one of 10 artists that were mostly from larger schools. It was also really awesome to see my art on display in a college,” said Boston.

Two Holdrege High School art students recently received Nebraska Scholastic Art Awards. Emily Wiese, a senior at HHS earned a Silver Key for her watercolor painting “Blue at Heart.” Ashley Woosely, also a senior, received Honorable Mention for her painting, “Sunkissed.” Both paintings have been on display in the Omaha Public Schools Administration Building during the month of March.

To celebrate Youth Art Month (March), the Nebraska Art Teachers Association hosted an annual art show at the State Capitol in Lincoln to recognize young art students. Kamryn Lynch, a sophomore at HHS, submitted her colored pencil still life, “Fruit dans un Panier.” Carly Janssen, also a sophomore at HHS, submitted her statue, “Bright Night.”
