October 19, 2018
After a challenging season with a young team and low numbers, the Holdrege Dusters’ tennis team finished their season tied for sixteenth place at state with Alliance and North Platte.
In the first round, #1 singles player, Gage Huston, played Henry Goodwin from Lexington beating him 6-4 the first set and 6-1 the second set. Holdrege’s #2 singles Garrett Ehrenburg lost to Jacob Akins from South Sioux City 4-6, 3-6. The Duster’s #1 doubles team of Eli Borden and Trevor Scheele defeated Loki Hays and Logan Johnson from Hastings 6-0, 7-6, (8-6). The #2 doubles team of Parker Hamling and Harrison Elliot lost to the seventh seed – Logan Hock and Alex Payne from Mount Michael Benedictine 4-6, 2-6.
With only #1 singles and #1 doubles advancing the team played some tough competition. Gage Huston played # 4 seed, Zachary Weber from Gretna, losing 0-6, 0-6. Eli Borden and Trevor Scheele lost 0-6, 0-6 to the # 2 seed and Class B #1 doubles champions, Bradyn Heiss and Luca Struff from York.
“We played the best tennis at state, than we’ve played all year,” said Head Coach Eric Brown.
