On January 5th, Holdrege went to Lexington to compete in the New Year Competition. An odd day led to a smaller amount of medalists than normal.

Regardless of the day, the team found ways to find success in their individual events.

Amanda Envick picked up another first place in poetry,  following her first place at Cozad as well.

In Entertainment, Bailey Johnson placed fifth as a novice and Regan Boyken and Boston Petit placed fifth and fourth in varsity.

For Informative, Grace Maloley placed fourth as a novice and Maddie Moore placed third in varsity. Caden Erickson spoke his was to third place in varsity extemporaneous.

Finally, Maddie Parsons finished fourth in novice serious.

The speech team is optimistic about this season, with a young team with some  older leaders.
