Mrs. McCroden, HHS Head Speech Coach, was nominated and awarded Director of the Year this past weekend at the CNFL(Central Nebraska Forensic League) meet in Grand Island. Over thirty-five directors from all over the state are considered for this position.

Coach McCroden was nominated by the Minden Speech Coach, Jeffrey Horner, who she used to work alongside.

“I was an assistant speech coach in Minden for 10 years, assistant in Holdrege for 1 year and head coach for two years,” said Mrs. McCroden.

“I am very honored to not only be nominated for this award, but very humbled to actually receive it, “ said Coach McCroden.

With having practices after school, Mrs. McCroden balances being a teacher, mom, coach and living in another town.

With about half of the speech team season left, Coach McCroden is looking forward to the remaining meets.

“With 5 regular season speech meets left and the addition of conference and districts and hopefully state, we are really just in the middle of our season. The first half of the season is always the hardest just with all the kids trying to find scripts, write speeches, and make visual aids,” said Coach McCroden,  “However, the second half of speech season is the most fun and rewarding because the kids know what they want to achieve and really push themselves to do their very best. We started this year strong with a dynamic group of speakers and I have a feeling we will finish strong too. They are dedicated to our team and to themselves and will continue to push themselves to do better and finish the season strong.”
