Brandt Runge, one of the newest members at Holdrege High School, is ready for his first year. Runge comes to Holdrege after teaching at Elm Creek High School. He teaches American Government, American History, and Sociology. Runge wanted to be able to teach in the same school district as his wife, Carlie Runge, who teaches ESL here in Holdrege.

Runge grew up in Axtell and went to school at Axtell Public School. He went to college at UNK and graduated in May of 2018. He has started his masters degree there as well. He stayed close to home and lives only a half a mile away from where he grew up. Runge’s dad works at Becton Dickinson (BD) here in Holdrege and Mr. Runge likes being close to his family.

Runge originally wanted to become a teacher because he wanted to coach, “My biggest thing was I really liked sports, so I got into teaching so I could coach,” he said. Runge loves teaching American Government most because “it’s something you’re going to use for the rest of your life,” he said. He is super excited to be teaching upperclassmen and kids who are a little more mature. He likes using humor regularly as part of his lectures and lessons and he believes having these upperclassmen will make it even more fun.

Runge is also the new Holdrege Duster boys’ basketball head coach. This will be Runge’s sixth year of coaching basketball and he is ready for an exciting season. He has loved sports for a long time and had a few coaches growing up that were super influential and made him want to become a coach. Be on the lookout for the new history teacher roaming the hallways!
